Two episodes, Colombo: Non c'è tempo per morire (1992) and Colombo: Indagine ad incastro (1994), were based on the 87th Precinct novels by Ed McBain (a.k.a. Evan Hunter), and therefore did not strictly follow the standard Columbo/inverted detective story format.
