Cinematographer Julio Macat used Una storia di Natale (1983) as inspiration for the look of this movie. It was also one of the last major productions to use carbon-arc lighting, which Macat felt gave a warmer and richer light. These lights fell out of use due to the fact they could only operate for around 20 minutes at a time, and required an exhaust system when used indoors.
