The movie was heavily inspired by the British apocalyptic horror 28 Days Later... (2002), which also shows a similar situation of people being infected by a rabid virus, causing them to become excessively violent and spread the disease. However, that film never really shows the infected people as carnivores, as they infected the healthy by transfusing blood on their mouths.
