Sir Ridley Scott approached SOAS, University of London, in 2011 to find experts who could help create a new Engineer language for the film. Linguist Anil Biltoo from SOAS' Language Centre worked to create the language, as well as the alien script, which can be seen throughout. Biltoo reasoned that the Engineers' language would be closely based on Proto-Indo-European (PIE), the common ancestral language spoken until around 2500 BC that later spawned the European and Indian languages (explaining why David knows how to phonetically speak it). As a test, Biltoo successfully translated Rutger Hauer's final speech from Blade Runner (1982) into Engineers, and became the movie's language consultant. Biltoo can be seen briefly in a scene with Michael Fassbender. Other SOAS staff members appear briefly and are credited, including Wambui Kunya, Sonam Dugdak, Shin-Ichiro Okajima, Kay Rienjang, Zed Sevcikova, and Reynir Thor Eggertsson.
