Over the course of the Anime series, Ash's Pikachu has only been seen returned to a Poke Ball once, during Pokémon - Il film (1998). It has only come from a Poké Ball twice, the first time being when it was given to Ash by Professor Oak in Pokémon: Pokémon, I Choose You! (1997) and the second after being cloned in the first movie. Additionally, in Pokémon: Find Pikachu! Route 202! (2006), Dawn attempted to capture Pikachu but due to it being owned by Ash (and therefore already "marked" by a Poké Ball), she failed.
