The film is considered to be a loose remake of the action film Crank (2006). In that film, Jason Statham stars as Chev Chelios, a professional assassin who seeks revenge on his nemesis, who injected him with a lethal poison which will kill him when his heart rate drops, after which he becomes seemingly indestructible. In this film, Wade Wilson seeks vengeance on Ajax when he injects him a serum that gives him mutant powers, but as consequence leaves him disfigured leading him to become Deadpool.
