Original screenwriters Lex Marinos and Dorothy Hewett were not credited in the finished film's credits. David Stratton in his book 'The Avocado Plantation: Boom and Bust in the Australian Film Industry' (1990) writes: ''Lex Marinos wrote the first draft and was joined by playwright Dorothy Hewett on subsequent drafts . . . the screenplay is credited to Mac Gudgeon and Clayton Frohman, the latter an American writer; during pre-production Dorothy Hewett and Lex Marinos were still listed as Gudgeon's co-writers''.
