Phantom comics had been very popular in Turkey for decades, where they were published under the name Kizilmaske (The Crimson Mask). The comics were printed in black and white, and the color covers (painted by world-famous cover artist Aslan) always depicted him in a bright red costume, fitting his Turkish moniker. Therefore, most Turkish audiences were stupified to see Phantom in his purple-ish costume.
