According to screenwriter John Milius, he wrote the entire script of the movie listening only to music by Richard Wagner and The Doors. To him, The Doors had always been "music of war." When he mentioned it to the band, they were horrified. Ironically, the lead singer, Jim Morrison IV, was a son of George S. Morrison, an important Admiral of the United States Navy.
