Although it had a stronger opening weekend than its predecessor did grossing $42 million, vs its predecessor which grossed $25 million on its opening weekend in 1996, the domestic box office results were slightly lower. The first film grossed $128 million domestically whereas this sequel grossed a little less with $123 million. However internationally the sequel did significantly less business than the first film. The first film grossed $273 million globally while the sequel managed only $166 million globally.
