In Neo's conversation with The Architect, it is revealed that Neo is in the sixth iteration of the Matrix, and he is the sixth version of the anomaly. Another way of referring to him therefore would be to say he is "Number 6". The Wachowskis are known to be fans of the TV series, Il prigioniero (1967) (a blink and you'll miss it clip of the show appears in the first film). The main character of the show, who was also big on individuality and fighting the system, was known as Number 6. Fans of the TV show will spot an even deeper connection between the two numbers, but that would be spoiling the ending of a different title.
