John Hillerman as "Simon Brimmer" and Ken Swofford as "Frank Flannagan" play characters not in the Ellery Queen stories, but added to the series to provide foils for Ellery. Though they have no episodes together, Hillerman and Swofford both appeared together three years previously in the movie "Skyjacked", as a flight controller and an airliner engineer respectively.
