When Benicio Del Toro threw the grenade at the oncoming car, he actually hit the door instead, and the prop bounced off, clearly in view. As the resulting explosion would be a VFX shot anyway, Rodeo FX - the company responsible for the visual effects - simply did the additional work of editing out the errant prop. The flub can be seen in Rodeo FX's showcase video for Soldado (2018) on YouTube.
