Mrs. Potts was played by Dame Emma Thompson, who played Mrs. Lovett at the Lincoln Center performance of "Sweeney Todd: the Demon Barber of Fleet Street" in 2014. Her predecessor Dame Angela Lansbury (Mrs. Potts in La bella e la bestia (1991)), played Mrs. Lovett in the original theater production of "Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street" in 1979.
