To date, this film along with Transformers - L'ultimo cavaliere (2017) are the only live-action films in the franchise directed by Michael Bay not to feature Shia LaBeouf as Sam Witwicky or any story line about the Witwicky family. This was due to LaBeouf declining the role, and during filming he had to go to jail for federal problems.
