Neve Campbell was initially reluctant to perform in another horror film so soon after her supporting role in Giovani streghe (1996). Robin Tunney, who also appeared in that film, was invited to meet with Wes Craven about being in Scream, but she turned it down because she said she wasn't interested in the story.
