The name of the teacher recruiting Jughead to the private school, Mr. Chipping, is an homage to the Oscar nominated movie "Goodbye, Mr. Chips". Mr. Chips is a nickname for a beloved teacher, Mr. Chipping, who gains the respect and admiration of his students after a rough start as a new teacher. Robert Donat won an Oscar for his portrayal of Mr Chipping in the original film.
