In the UK the series helped change the fortunes of Channel 5 the newest terrestrial channel which had previously been struggling to find it's identity. The channel later picked up the spin offs (CSI: Miami (2002), CSI: NY (2004) and CSI: Cyber (2015)) and along with the first 3 series in the Law & Order franchise (Law & Order - I due volti della giustizia (1990), Law & Order: Unità Speciale (1999) and Criminal Intent (2001)) the channel then became the UK home of many successful US imported drams such as NCIS - Unità anticrimine (2003), Dr. House - Medical Division (2004), The Mentalist (2008) and Prison Break (2005). These US dramas were so successful that the channel launched its own dedicated US imports channel called Five USA in 2007.
