When first introduced, Worf's son Alexander was played by Jon Paul Steuer. After deciding to add Alexander as a recurring character, producers wanted the role to be played by a more experienced child actor. Brian Bonsall was cast in the role on the strength of his experience in television on Casa Keaton (1982).
