The initial budget for the film was 1/2 a million dollars but by the time it was completed it was reputed to have cost $1 and 1/2 million and many people in Hollywood expected it to flop, in fact while it was being made it was being called Disney's Folly. However on it's first release it grossed over $8 and 1/2 million and was estimate to have been seen by 20 million people in the first 3 months.
