When shown on television, with commercial breaks throughout, it is often unclear which version they are showing, due to the many variables of how often advertising breaks are taken, and how long each break is, which may easily extend the film length in the schedule to the equivalent apx length of the extended version. Many broadcasters in fact do not always mention if they are showing the original theatrical, or extended versions of The Hobbit trilogy, or indeed the Lord of the Rings trilogy.
