When Doctor Who was announced to return in 2004, it was falsely reported that Tom Baker (The Fourth Doctor) would be returning and that he would be playing The Master. However, Tom Baker did make a cameo in the 50th Anniversary special "Day of the Doctor" as The Curator, a future incarnation of The Doctor.
