Many of Mel Brooks' most successful dramatic films reunited members of the cast and crew of this film. Jonathan Sanger optioned another script, Frances, from Christopher DeVore and Eric Bergen. David Lynch was also offered the chance to direct that film, but declined. The Fly was brought to Brooks by Stuart Cornfeld. The Doctor and the Devils was directed by cinematographer Freddie Francis. 84 Charing Cross Road reunited Anthony Hopkins and Anne Bancroft.
