Shashi Kapoor had signed the film in 1980 and was pressured to stop working with Shabana Azmi. He asked the producer to replace her but the producer opted to drop Shashi Kapoor instead and replaced him with Rajesh Khanna. Mithun was very busy in those days and after signing the film in 1980, they finally began filming in 1982.
