Costume designer Mark Bridges styled Arthur Fleck/Joker's wardrobe in polyester with an early 1980s color palette. Bridges states, "I imagined if he ever did laundry, everything went into the washer at the same time. We made a kind of a bad laundry feel to the clothing." He goes on to state, "It's those subtle choices you can make for a character that informs the audience who they are and how they live."
