Martin Freeman is one of the many who have played Sherlock Holmes characters to appear in an MCU film. Benedict Cumberbatch and Freeman both star in the BBC show Sherlock (2010) as Sherlock Holmes and John Watson. While Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law (who will appear in Captain Marvel (2019)) have played Sherlock and Watson in the Guy Ritchie Sherlock Holmes films. Rachel McAdams, who plays Christine Palmer in Doctor Strange (2016), also appears in the Sherlock Holmes films with Robert Downey Jr. and Jude Law, as Irene Adler.
