Friends of John Singleton inspired certain characters for the film. Fatima who is a hairstylist and a former cosmetology student. Also Dedrick Dwayne "V-Dub" Robert (who makes a small appearance as Lloyd in this film and as Dooky in Boyz N the Hood) who used to work at the post office and had to drive mail from Los Angeles to Las Vegas, he would sometimes bring girls along.
