It appears that in an early draft of the script, the Army Ranger team was going to be compromised of characters who either were or would become members of another Hasbro property, G.I.Joe. The characters all share characteristics and likenesses of some of the original Joe's and some were even cast to match. The team appears to have consisted of at least Duke (Lennox), Stalker (Epps), Trip Wire (Donnelly), Gung Ho (Fig), and some others who weren't mention by name. This was apparently changed in rewrites but you can still see remnants of the characters. Donnelly is clumsy and bespectacled like the Joe, "Trip Wire". Their heavy weapons guy is a muscular bright blond guy, like the Joe 's heavy machine gunner "Rock n' Roll."Where you can really see remnants of the early draft is with the character "Fig". In his dialogue, he laments about going back to Louisiana and eating Cajun food., just like the G.I Joe character "Gung Ho." They cast Amaury Nolasco who is a Latino American from Puerto Rico. So oddly, they altered his dialogue so that when he starts reminiscing about his favorite home cooked food, his description of Cajun delicacies start changing midway into Puerto Rican dishes to match the actor's bilingual capabilities and have him switch to Spanish. He even looks like "Gung Ho" with his bald head, muscular frame, and bare chest. It can only be assumed the took another direction deciding to introduce "G.I. Joe " in their own franchise.
