Disney named the Evil Queen as Queen Grimhilde, though the name is not used in the actual film. They used as inspiration Princess Kriemhild of the "Nibelungenlied" (13th century). In the medieval tale, Kriemhild develops from a relatively mild-mannered courtly lady into a forceful and ferocious avenger of her dead husband.
