Although the series is set in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, that country was deemed too dangerous for cast and crew. Jungle and rural scenes were filmed in the KwaZulu province of South Africa and the interiors were shot in Cape Town. Filming in the former British colony of South Africa (now the Republic of South Africa) explains why the vehicles have right hand drive as in the United Kingdom.
