In another homage to 80's movies, Police Chief Jim Hopper (David Harbour) is named after the character Arnold Schwarzenegger first goes looking for in Predator (1987). Additionally, the first character killed onscreen in Predator (1987) was named Hawkins. Stranger Things takes place in the fictional Hawkins, IN.
