For Season 3, Static changed his costume to a darker-colored one. Denys Cowan stated that the change was done to give his clothes a "feel of the comic book", while Dwayne McDuffie said it represented a growth that Virgil was passing through. This maturation made it possible to "explore some of the darker places in his world" and to have more varied conflicts, as the villains had also become more mature. He described it is as "a natural outgrowth of all that, as is the new, more naturalistic look of the show".
