Lee Bergere who played the Carrington family butler Joseph for many years, allegedly got in a fight with Spelling over screen-time and salary, which led to his termination. That would explain why in Season 5 Joseph, who has been as loyal as a lap dog and a perfect saint for 5 years, all of a sudden gets in a weird fight with Alexis. Alexis finds out some damning information about Joseph's past from her PIs, and throws it back in Joseph's face in the kitchen, at which point Joseph goes berserk, locks Crystal and Alexis in a cabin and sets it ablaze in one of the show's cliffhangers. And then Joseph disappears completely after that.
