Executive Producer Dick Ebersol left the show in 1985 to be a stay-at-home father to his children. His wife, Susan Saint James, was starring in Kate e Allie (1984), and Ebersol promised her that he would work from home while she worked on her show. Lorne Michaels was persuaded to rejoin the show, and has produced it ever since.
