Of the movie's source 'Daffodils' stage musical, playwright and screenwriter Rochelle Bright commented: ''To our great surprise it was a hit. 'Daffodils' toured New Zealand, Australia and the United Kingdom, ending with the Edinburgh Festival Fringe [in 2016]. Director David Stubbs saw the stage show in Wellington and the rest is history.''
