It might seem that Hermione robbed the Quidditch team of a slightly better player, when she confunded Cormac McLaggen during the tryouts. The books make it clear, however, that Ron is the better choice here: McLaggen gets to fill in for Ron, after he recovers from the poison attack. This results in a catastrophic match, which was lost because of McLaggen's arrogance.
