Per the August 2011 issue of "American Cinematographer", three days of test shooting were done in 3D on the Cameron/Pace system, and seven out of ten weeks of prep were done with 3D in mind before the decision was made to shoot on film in 2D instead. Cinematographer Matthew Libatique was worried about the size and weight of the 3D rigs and the number of cables involved, as well as the difficulty of shooting with the system in the New Mexico desert.
