The movie was also about showing how weak Kong truly is. He's been stuck on Skull Island for so long with no knowledge of the world beyond the island. He's never seen snow as shown when he interacts with it curiously on the Hollow Earth entrance on Antarctica. He's never fought anything stronger than him after the SkullCrawlers and the mire squid so he went unchallenged for an unknown amount of time. He's never had a place to roam and be free. And he's had to be saved multiple times by someone or something. This was Kong's wake up call that the world was bigger than he could possibly imagine. And now that he's in a new territory he can only get stronger from here on out
