Mary fires three people during the course of the show. An amorous producer who makes a pass (a "completed pass" says Mr. Grant) at Wild Jack Monroe's wife in season 1. She fires Phyllis Lindstrom from a Production Assistant/Administrative Assistant job has working for Mary in Season 2 because Mr. Grant says she's "dangerous for convincing (Ted) Baxter he's capable of human thought"; and for general incompetence. And in season 7 she fires Barbara Jean Smathers, a female sports anchor who will only read reports on swimmers.
