When David Norris meets Thompson by first time, he tells David that the plan for him implies he will win all the next elections until he becomes President of United States. At the end of the movie, Harry Mitchell reveals to David, Elise and Thompson that The Chairman has altered the plan after David and Elise's determination to be together despite the original plan that dictated they be separated, leaving them the freedom to chose their own destiny. On the assumption that David would continue his career as a politician, it also implies that Elise would leave her career as dancer to be First Lady of United States.
