The character of Salvador Vila, the former student who befriended Unamuno, explains to him the murder of Federico García Lorca in Granada. He himself was Rector of Granada's University for the last three months before the coup, when he was removed from the position. He would be shot to death with 28 other people in October from that year and thrown in a mass grave in the same village near Granada where Lorca himself was killed two months before.
