Originally, Nyssa wasn't going to be a companion and was created as a one-off character by Johnny Byrne for "The Keeper of Traken". However, John-Nathan Turner and the production team decided to make Nyssa a regular companion and brought her back for Tom Baker's final story "Logopolis".
