In Military Planning Circles, the different stages of a mission are monitored using a "Mission Status Tracking Board" or "Synchronization Matrix". In simplest terms it can be placed on a whiteboard, or listed on a spreadsheet type document, where it is highlighted as it is completed and projected on a screen. The Milestones, or Checkpoints on a given mission are assigned "proword" (Procedure Word). The set of Milestones names seem to be chosen randomly by the people running the mission, in alphabetical order (Wives' names, Dog breeds, Sports teams, Cities/States, College Mascots, candy bars, alcoholic beverage names and etc). The milestones itself refers to a major task in the mission. For example: Infil (Infiltration)Start PatrolOn TargetOuter Cordon SetInner Cordon SetAssault Force Entry into Compound,Begin Clearing BuildingsBuildings ClearedHVT (High Value Target) killed or capturedSSE (Sensitive Site Exploitation)Patrol OutExfil (Exfiltration)
