Uryu's dad, Ryuken Ishida, and Ichigo's dad, Isshin Shiba, know each other because Uryu was betrothed to Masaki, who was a pure Quincy. Masaki saved the former captain of the 10th division, Isshin, but was infected with Hollow reiatsu, so in order to survive, her soul was connected to Isshin, who had to sacrifice his shinigami powers and become a human. This is why Isshin couldn't see hollows in the beginning of the story, his shinigami powers were awakened again after Ichigo became a shinigami himself.
