The film's directors were dismayed to learn that not all theaters were equipped to show a film in 2.39:1 widescreen. Furthermore, they were tired of having their films shot with this ratio cropped to 4:3 or 16:9 for TV broadcasts. Consequently, while making the 2.39:1 version, another version of the film had to be made, this time in 1.37:1 aspect ratio. For this film, after a shot was completed for the scope version, another take had to be made for the flat version, as is the case with shooting La tunica (1953) twice, one for CinemaScope exhibition and another for spherical exhibition.
