Back in late January of 2000, Universal hired David H. Steinberg to write "American Pie 2." But, the draft Steinberg wrote veered too far from the tone set by Adam Herz, Pie's original writer. Universal got rid of Steinberg and brought Herz back on the project (Steinberg later went on to write some of the later straight-to-DVD "Pie" films).
