The first shiny Pokémon (a Pokémon with a different colour palette) to appear in the show was the normal/flying type Noctowl in the episode Pokémon: A Differently Colored Yorunozuku! Catch It!! (2000). Ash would later catch it in the episode and have it remain with him until the end of the Johto arc.
