Loosely based on the life of Billy Cannon, star running back and kick returner for Louisiana State University, who won the Heisman Trophy in 1959. Cannon later played in the American Football League with the Houston Oilers, Oakland Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs. Cannon had a successful career as a dentist, but later served time in prison for his involvement in a counterfeiting scheme.
