Contrary to popular belief, Michelle Rodriguez had only agreed to be on the show for one season, so her character Ana Lucia's sudden demise near the end of the second season had always been part of the plan. Rumors that she was fired due to a drunken-driving violation that had occurred shortly before, or her supposed unpopularity with both viewers and fellow cast members have been denied by showrunners Carlton Cuse and Damon Lindelof. In fact, Cuse and Lindelof briefly considered not killing her character off to avoid any suggestion that she was fired from the show, but since the entire season ending had already been written around her character's death, they decided to go through with it, with Rodriguez' blessing.
