(at around 2h 25 mins) The scene where Rose and Jack encounter Thomas Andrews just before the ship sinks has some historical basis. According to Walter Lord's book "A Night to Remember," at around 2:10 a.m. a steward looked into the smoking room and saw Andrews "standing all alone in the room, Andrews's lifebelt lay carelessly across the green cloth top of a card table." The steward asked him, "Aren't you even going to have a try for it, Mr. Andrews?" In the film, this line is spoken by Rose. The original scene as reported by Lord appears in Titanic: Latitudine 41° Nord (1958).
